Entry 11: Normal Life

For the past few days, normal life has dominated our existence. Work is still work, and family life is still family life. I find myself valuing the time I have to see The Missus and the kids even more – I know it’s because the thought of being away from them for such a long period of time is not something I relish. OK, I’ll be honest, I can’t stand the thought of being away from them. It’s gonna be tough, there’s no doubt about it. I’m sure being away is very normal for a professional filmmaker, but I’m not used to the concept. I admit I’m extra soft when it comes to this sort of thing. Ah well, it’s a good problem to have.

Andy called, and we confirmed the dates of our trip. He said that they have questions about production choices that the director should have the chance to answer, and they want to put the MOU to bed face to face for sake of speed. Amen to that. We’re going to spend the Saturday with Chris Bland, our preferred DOP for the film. He’s driving down to Canberra from Sydney to meet with us. I want him and Ryan to break down the script so I can calculate a rough idea of the shoot schedule to help with my own budgeting. Blandy shot Waterborne the short film, he’s got experience working on wet sets and he and Ryan have an excellent and proven working shorthand. The latest feature he shot, Broke, has just been released. It looks gorgeous.
