Entry 21: World Class Talent

Tom sent me through a link to his showreel, and I forwarded that through to Andy and Shannon to have a look at. What I loved about this work on that film was the choices he made at particular points in the story. When the subject of the doco achieves what she has dedicated her career and life towards, the music is understated – not a crescendo as you might expect. It’s beautiful, and perfectly frames the moment, but it doesn’t try to obviously add to it, you know? It shows respect to that moment by not trying to get in the way. Can you imagine the restraint required by a composer to do that? To not only have the skill required to create that music, but to also understand that in that moment, all of the components of the audio and visual experience needed to be executed in such a way so that it could be greater than the sum of the parts? That’s a film composer. Holy moly. I just love it when I see world class talent, right there in front of me.

Speaking of which, a very well known Australian actor has agreed to read the screenplay for Contained. That in of itself is amazing, let alone if he actually says yes. Just the thought of him, a world class actor, reading our little screenplay delights me. I hope, by some miracle, that he wants to do it and is also available.
