Veritas Entertainment

Entry 38: An Unexpected Path

The past two months have been an experience that I don’t think anyone involved in the project could have anticipated.

The good news: interest for the film in markets around the world continues to grow.

The not so good news: in order to make good on that interest, the budget of the movie must grow again beyond the scope we had been working with, indeed; beyond the scope of existing agreements that had bound The Film Distillery and Veritas Entertainment together.

And so, over the past two and a bit months we have been negotiating. Negotiating what the new budget would be. Negotiating how that budget would be raised. Negotiating who would be involved in the film moving forward.

The great news: the negotiations are over, to everyone’s satisfaction. The Film Distillery and Veritas Entertainment will continue to march together toward production. We have a new budget, new goals and a new path, but we’ll get there hand in hand.

It’s a good thing, too. The negotiations couldn’t have finished soon enough. Because, while interest in the film continues to grow, I’m getting this weird sense of paranoia that someone, somewhere in the world is putting pen to paper on an idea for a film similar to ours, and if we don’t get a wiggle on, maybe that someone could catch up to where we are. Or worse – they could run right past us.

Luckily, the antidote to this kind of paranoia is to buckle down and get on with it. Get it done. And that’s exactly what we’re going to do.
